The insurance industry is a major component of the economy by virtue of the amount of premiums it collects, the scale of its investment and, more fundamentally, the essential social and economic role it plays by covering personal and business risks. This OECD database, available for the first time on CD-ROM, is an essential tool for experts from public, private and academic sectors working in the insurance field. It gathers major official insurance statistics for all OECD countries* as well as the Slovak Republic which has an observer status to the OECD Insurance Committee. It provides information on the diverse activities of this industry and on international insurance market trends. The data, standardised as far as possible, are broken down under numerous sub-headings, and a series of indicators makes the characteristics of the national markets more readily comprehensible. It uses Beyond 20/20TM, a user-friendly WindowsTM-based software that allows the user to extract data and build customised tools for analysis such as graphs and tables. Technical documentation on the software and the statistics is included in AcrobatTM format. ALSO AVAILABLE in paper version. *OECD COUNTRIES: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. www.oecd.org/daf
